Thanks for pointing that out Cindy... I was unaware that was happening, but it's good to know. I like the term "changing conception of authorship"... I read a book a while ago called The Wisdom of Crowds by James Surowieki and it really changed the way I think about groups. The basic premise of the book was that if you have a large enough group of people with a diverse set of opinions and perspectives, and they are given an efficient mechanism by which their collective perspectives can be aggregated so that their ideas intermingle in a free-market way, then they will always be smarter, better, and more wise than the most expert individual. Personally I think that's what we are seeing with Wikis and the blogosphere right now... the rise of a collective intelligence because the technology is now able to provide that free-market, efficient mechanism for sharing ideas.
Don't get me started... :-)
Thanks for sharing.

Hi,
Another interesting point about Wikipedia is that is has been included on the list of texts to study for the 2009-2012 HSC English course. The changing conception of authorship is one of the aspects that will be explored. No doubt there will be those who will be horrified by this but the number of people who understand the remarkable transformation of information in this "connected" time is growing
